If surgeon is operating on someone and incidentally sees something else that may be malignant but could just be benign tumor (but not emergency): Do they have to finish current procedure and close up before they can even take a biopsy? Not excision but just biopsy?

According to what I've read, I think that they would have to get consent even for a biopsy but I wanted to see what you guys say.

I had a Qbank question with a similar scenerio. From what I remember, since the patient is already opened up, you can do a biopsy without consent, but you can't remove the tumor without consent from the patient.
