Anyone gotten into this world? NP friend of mine is looking for a partner (i.e., needs a physician license on board) on this. Would start as a side gig for her, she already has state business license ready to go, taken the “course,” and seems to have all other ducks in a row.

I need to take one of the “courses” to get certified, but other than that not a whole lot on my end that I can see, at least initially. Anyone else gotten into this world yet? Not looking to replace income or quit my job, but seems intriguing as a small side gig.

My main concerns are:

1. financial setup, no clue yet on how that will work, meeting with her tomorrow
2. Insurance, malpractice/liability, etc. have to research this more.

Not 100% sold on it yet, but we’ll see. Any insight from folks would be great.

One of our new hires did this and left our group. He does it full time and it’s worked out very well for him. He’s opened a 2nd office and hired a 2nd physician and a NP, and he’s become the top injector in our area by volume. Promotion is very important....billboards, YouTube, Yelp, Instagram. It’s another world.

Doing all things that sound terrible to me, which was one big appeal of anesthesia in the first place for me (not having to market myself to get patients. Someone else does that for me).

Be your own boss.
Are you a millennial by chance?

I hope to “be my own boss” in an anesthesia group as a partner. Very different business things to deal with compared to the above noted “YouTube, Instagram, marketing, billboards” and all that goes into setting up your own shop. No desire.

I’d rather go to the hospital, do a dang good job taking care of my patients, that the SURGEON has brought to me and had to do all the marketing crap to bring them in and grow his business.

Learning more about this, it’s definitely a volume business, as you have alluded to/described above, but if I’m not the one putting the volume in and can passively grow this and a make a little extra...

If you treat this venture as medical supervision, then it’d be okay. As an anesthesiologist, I would assume that you know there are emergencies CRNA aren’t 100% prepared for. I also assume this is a cash only business, your clientele can probably be very picky, perhaps vindictive.

easy to learn malpractice is low its all a business not medicine at all

Not following you.

What are you injecting and for what indication?

Its all about marketing. A buddy spends around $15k/month on marketing. There's also going to be a ramp up period to become profitable. The better your marketing and location are, the shorter this ramp up period can be.

Botox, lip fillers, microneedling, etc. Completely cosmetic, cash business.

Not medical supervision, in my state NPs can do the procedures independently given that I sign off on x% of patient charts. I’ll be medical director and take set % as that then may invest some for capital as well. Playing around with the setup now.

If you trust this person and skills are good, I don't see a major issue.

You will need good insurance in the beginning specially if there is a learning curve to these procedures.

I work for a large company (not national AMC), I can’t imagine my company’s policy would cover. I’ll either get independent insurance individually or for the business as a whole, have a meeting with folks next week to discuss options.

There are some laws with medical directors owning percentage of company and fee-splitting, have to look into that more thoroughly.

And I trust the NP wholeheartedly, know her personally and professionally.

Low financial risk at the moment due to low start up costs and no advertising while we get things rolling, but insurance will be my main concern as discussed above. Appreciate the thoughts/insight from you guys.
