How is it that the muscles of the soft palate (with the exception of tensor veli palatini m.) are not innervated by the superior laryngeal branch of vagus nerve (CN X), even though these muscles are derived from the 4th pharyngeal arch? Firecracker and First Aid and even Duke embryology state that the structures of the 4th pharyngeal arch are innervated by the superior laryngeal branch of vagus nerve (CN X).
