Inputting Classes/Grades

If the school says its requirement is:

1. Chemistry: 8 semester hours, two semesters with a lab in each
2. Physics: 8 semester hours, two semesters with a lab in each
3. Biology: 8 semester hours, two semesters with a lab in each

And the list goes on. I'm filling out its supplemental app and it asks for grades received for each pre-req courses.


If I have several Bio courses (General bio with labs, Ecology with labs, Invertebrate zoology with labs, etc.) Can I just pick and choose whichever I got the highest grade in? Or do I have to go with the general bio as most PT schools ask for?

General biology is typically what schools want to see for the biology prerequisite courses. I don't think other biology courses can be used, but you should always ask the admissions departments at specific schools to clarify what counts for their particular prerequisites.

I was wondering the same thing. I was a biology major in my undergrad and so I never took bio 101 and 102. I started slightly higher up. Has anyone else out there applied without bio 101 and 102 and knows for sure if higher level bio courses can replace it?

Are those classes (101 and 102) for biology majors or are they lower level biology courses? Where I attended, the general biology series for biology majors is a prerequisite to take any higher level biology course. There are biology courses below the general biology series for majors, but those aren't at the level that PT schools usually want to see. Since you were a biology major, I'd think you've probably taken something that would count for the biology prerequisite.

I think PT schools prefer to look at these general classes vs. some of the upper level biology courses (exceptions: human anatomy/physiology) since some biology courses are less relevant to humans.

I attended two schools. At both, general biol I and II were not required as prerequisites for other biology classes. Like instead of taking 101, which was offered, you could start at Bio 121 (which would be the prerequisite) for all the other biology classes. Bio 121 was not general bio 101 though.

The schools I applied to according to PTCAS said I could substitute biology with Microbiology. SO I only took general biology I and general microbiology.

I was recently asked to provide a syllabus for a course I took in order to verify whether I met a prerequisite at one school. Each school you apply to might see the courses you took as more or less suitable to their particular prerequisites. For biology though, it seems like most schools just require a general biology series (with labs) to meet this requirement. Some schools might be more specific though about what they'll accept.

I found that I needed to target schools with prereqs that best fit with what I had taken at that point/still planned to take. The APTA and PTCAS websites, with their school directories detailing each school's prerequisites, were very helpful for making those decisions.
