I have an interview scheduled for mid-December at one of my top choice schools and I am starting to get impatient with the wait. Has anybody ever called the admissions office to see if there were any cancellations at earlier dates? I would really like to do this, but I'm unsure if this is appropriate. Thanks!

I'm sure it'd be fine. Depends on the specific school's policy. If it is a school with rolling admissions, I would definitely give it a shot. just make it clear that you're still OK with your original interview date but you're just wondering if you could possibly come earlier.

Try and be anonymous when you call (e.g don't tell them your name unless they ask).

100% agree. Try to find out what their policy is first.

It says that interview can only be rescheduled over the phone, but that's about it. Eh, I don't know maybe ill just stick with my original date. I just wish it was earlier.

I did this very thing at a school I live close to and it worked out great. Just be polite and as mentioned earlier, make sure it's clear your just curious about filling in if there are any cancellations before your scheduled date.
If you want to try the anonymous thing I don't see anything wrong with that either.
Best of luck to you

Last year I sent an an email to the admissions office of one school asking if they could possibly notify me of any cancellations on a date prior to my scheduled date. They actually did get back to me and I was bumped up by 2 months! If anything, I think it would help since it shows the school how interested you are in interviewing/attending. Just be smart/professional about how you ask them.

Also, if you plan on calling. Aside from making yourself anonymous, ask the person on the other end if they wouldn't mind if you called back occasionally to see if there were any cancellations. I'm sure they'd either say something like "Sure no problem, good luck with that" or "How about no. We'll call you!". At least you'd know where you stand.

Whatever you decide to do, let us know how it goes.

I just got off the phone with the admissions office and they were very nice about switching my date. It is now a month earlier! Very happy about this, I can't wait!

^ Good news man. Now when future applicants have the same question, they can possibly look forward to great results 👍
