Hello! So before I went to the university I graduated from, I went to a local college and my grades were then transferred to the university. My transcript says that my university GPA is 3.808 but does that take into account my community college grades? Do medical schools look at the university GPA or the cumulative GPA calculated from both? When I divide my total points by the number of credits, it shows a 3.710.

This is the wrong area for this post but to answer your question they look at the cumulative. When you apply you'll put all classes ever taken in college and grades recieved and the gpa will be calculated from there, not the one on your transcript.

Meaning they'd see the 3.710 like you calculated yourself which is still pretty solid so don't worry.

So another quick question which is totally unrelated but...I take the MCAT on May 20th. Can I start on the AMCAS application and save it so that I will be ready to submit it if my MCAT score comes back good or do I have to turn it in immediatly. I was wondering if we can do the whole "save the app. and come back to it later."

Yep you can! I've been working on filling in the old one though as I'm pretty sure once the new one opens I can just transfer my information. I'm also going to copy and paste it to a Google doc just to be safe so that I can then copy and paste it into the new one if there's no transfer option. You can even submit it without your MCAT and it'll update once your scores come out automatically. Check out the current cycle application on AMCAS to get an idea of how it looks.

Thank you so so much for your replies!! Good luck on your application!!!

So long as you wait for the 2019 application to become available early in May 2018 before you start filling it out, you can save your entries until you're ready to submit. But if you begin on the AMCAS application 2018 that is currently open, very little of the data you enter will repopulate to the 2019 version.

An exception to the above would be if you submitted the 2018 application and paid a fee.

ooops, im glad you clarified this because I've been filling out the 2018 one. Welp all those course entries will be a pain to re-enter

Re-entering ones transcripts is a horrific hoop to have to jump through.
I'm confused honestly. So if I want to get admitted into medical school in 2019, I cannot fill out the AMCAS application that is out now until I get my score back around May?

Oh wait so you mean that the application that is out right now was for individuals who are being admitted into medical school in 2018 and that I would have to wait until May for the application in which individuals are admitted into medical school in 2019?

The application available now is for the 2017-2018 cycle. The next round opens up on May 1st.
