So for the AACOMAS application it asks about Institutional Action. I believe I was on academic probation at some point, but honestly its been 10 years ago and I have no idea. It isn't listed anywhere on my transcript. Should I contact the institution and go from there? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

What was the situation? I ask because at my institution, you can get "academic probation" for not meeting the required GPA requirement which means getting kicked out of the major. In my opinion doesn't qualify as IA.....I could be wrong, so don't take my word for it.

Thank you for replying. It was for receiving a 2.0 grade average. I have since completely replaced all the previous grades. Another instance, long story short, I received all F's for a semester. These grades have since been replaced as well. Long story short, I was young and very stupid.

This does not qualify as an IA on the AACOMAS application. Just drop it, there is no need to bring it up. However, you might find yourself in an awkward position in front of ADCOMs explaining what the heck happened.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, this is true. I have addressed it in my PS as well and have discussed it others before, and will be more than happy to discuss it with them. So I will check no on that box. Thanks again!

IA's are reserved usually for cheating, and/or violating the student honor code in any way.

I wouldn't worry about low GPA issues being IA, as they will see what is on your transcript and usually low gpa is not shown as an IA on any transcript I've seen.

Now disciplinary, honor, or ethical violation action/IA for things is another story and that should be reported and discussed accordingly. Some transcripts note such and some don't, but it's not worth the risk of hiding it.

That said, always follow AACOMAS or whatever rules.

Thank you for the reply. This makes much more sense. None of these situations ever occurred.

Not to hijack the tread, but I was on Academic Probation for low GPA 15ish years ago. I did list it as an IA on my application and have already submitted. Will this negatively affect me to have listed it or is it a non-issue?

As long as you explained it then you'll probably be fine. Adcoms are fine with reinvention academically but not with other issues.

Also, just to add to the discussion in general one should always follow AACOMAS rules, but last year I don't recall seeing low gpa under IA.
