So, I attended a very conservative Bible college and toward the end of it I may have done the worst thing imaginable: had premarital sex.

Anyway, the other person felt guilty, turned themselves in, named me, so I got put on probation and told to go to counseling for the rest of the year. I completed counseling and probation with no further incidents.

How is this going to affect my chances? (Outside of Loma Linda - to which I'm not applying)

This is awkward since I feel like this isn't a big deal as far as IA go but at the same time you have to disclose that you had sex to complete strangers.

Hopefully it doesn't come up in interviews!

I strongly recommend you disclose this every chance you get on your application, complete with photos if available.
This is terrible advice. I know for a fact that adcoms immediately dismiss any applicant who has had premarital sex. Please keep photos and/or videos for personal enjoyment only.

Hey at least you're not gay like some of us. Try explaining that at a religious school

Ok, I wasn't sure if they considered the ability to follow the moral code you agreed to, no matter how conservative, to be an issue.

Glad to know it will mostly bring about chuckles.

And @ZedsDed, who said I wasn't? Maybe the incident was a craigslist hookup. :O But, anyway, sex, whether gay or straight, is like the worst thing ever to this institution. I don't think the board has ever had any.

Haha yeah, I'm sure you're a regular Ted Haggard.
I think you know as well as I do that religious fundamentalists view straight premarital sex>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>gay anything of any kind

Well, I do bat for both teams. As for whether I've searched for batting opportunities in online ads, well, I guess we'll never know. 😛

But yes, I know, gay is the worst. Jerry Falwell told me so.

Here's a virtual high five

This is just too great! Best IA ever! I can't believe the girl ran and ratted you out! 5 Hail Marys would have done the job without being a tattle tale! Throw in an our father and she's good to go!

Ps- I'm catholic. I can say these things.

lol funny thread. But you are obviously trolling. I went to the a very conservative private Christian university and did seminary at one of the most conservative schools out there (weren't allowed to dance on campus) but nowhere and I mean nowhere was such a thing mentioned to be an IA according to academia. Only if the person was publicly having sex at the Quad or something which I think every school would count that as an IA.

Funny thread nonetheless! :corny:

First of all, lol.

Second, this actually highlights a problem with the entire IA system. Some schools don't write up students for minor drug offenses (aka weed) while others do. Reporting IAs really isn't a fair system.

Actually I know a college where I have a friend that went to to it where they have "boy girl visiting hours" in the dorm where their feet have to be on the floor and doors open. Boys and girls can't be in each other's dorms at any other time, and if they are caught they can be written up and dismissed.
Any alcohol and you're automatically dismissed. One guy had an empty beer can in his back seat from when he went home one weekend and he was dismissed.

So I believe things like this can happen.

Depends on what you call "writing up." All schools would discipline the student for a minor drug offense, if not get campus police involved. In that case, even if it's not written onto your permanent record, you still have to report it. So maybe one should say, "writing up IAs really isn't a fair system."

Nope. I know 100% this isn't the case in reality. Some schools are simply more lenient than others.
Also, what about schools where weed is decriminalized? Is it fair to allow students to smoke there but not everywhere else? Why? The entire process isn't consistent and is highly subjective/variable.

This is an inevitable result of there being an over-saturation of suitable candidates - the employer (aka schools) gets to be extremely picky about who gets in, and discriminates based on things that often don't matter (or that haven't mattered in the past). I don't blame them, it's just sad.

You could make the same argument about the law. Smoke in Colorado and you're fine. Go one state over and you get arrested. So try to make the excuse that "the process isn't consistent" when you get arrested in Utah. Maybe it's not fair but it's reality.

That's with almost any competitive position. Have you never applied for a competitive internship or scholarship? That's just how the world works. Maybe it's sad, but people get hired and fired over **** that doesn't matter.

How about most schools? Happy? No school in a state where weed is illegal is going to not discipline a student for possession of weed (as long as it's found by campus police, who are sworn officers of the law). That would invite a lot of legal trouble for the school. If they don't institutionally discipline them, it's probably because criminal charges (misdemeanor) were already written up and you would have to report that anyway.

Yeah that's the problem, I don't think one's personal live should be dragged into one's professional life. If you want to do drugs in your free time, it's fine with me IMO as long as it doesn't affect you while you work. In a way, people that get good grades and high MCATs while smoking/doing drugs is more praiseworthy than someone who gets the same grades while being the perfect little pea.

Some doctors do drugs. I've actually met practicing physicians who smoke. And I've met a LOT of med students who smoke. Guess what, they weren't horrible people who had no self control. For every doctor you've heard of that had drug abuse problems there are probably 5 others just like them that go through life just fine. Addiction isn't some universal phenomenon that affects everyone the same...

So it pisses me off when the government or these institutions start controlling people's personal lives because some bureaucratic liberal BS. Doctors can't do x in their free time, healthcare workers can't smoke cigarettes, get a DUI on vacation and you've probably got stacks of extra paperwork to fill out for the rest of your career... What's next? Will they start limiting fat/sugar/carb intake, monitoring cholesterol levels and BMI? Are they going to start monitoring our internet browsing / search habits? I mean the possibilities are endless man.

You're fine for any medical school in the country except LL [maybe] and LUCOM.

I suspect, but cannot prove, that most of the people you disclose it to will also have had sex at some point.

If it does come up in interviews, just get really contrite and try to generate a tear. Put your head in your hands. Say, "I'm so sorry, I never should have done it! I swear that was the first and only time, and I'll never do it again!"

Then look up, smile, and say, "Nah, I'm just ****ing with you. I smash it all the time."

Instant acceptance.
Well sure we all do it, but in an interview it's a bit awkward. It would be uncomfortable if it said on your transcript "IA: masturbates" no?

Well, if I would've done that, I probably would have gotten another IA. These are fundamentalists we're talking about - Catholics are just as evil as gays.

How I wish it were true that I was trolling. But, nope. Got a formal letter and everything. At least my eyes have been opened to fundamentalism - counseling for sex? Yeah, that was a waste of time.

My college perchance? LOL

We see at least a couple of these every year from one school in particular.
Don't fret.

Well, that's slightly comforting. Thanks.

Yeah, I'm fine not going LL or LUCOM. I'm fine with never attending a fundamentalist institution in my life. Thanks.

Seriously. This is how my ex girlfriend ended up leaving college They didn't officially dismiss her, they just kicked her off the softball team and made her do couselling and no one would room with her because gay.

It would be awesome if my transcript said that. what a great way to show adcoms you excell at all your extracurricular activities - your so good at masturbating they including it on your transcript? Insta-accept.

Hm, an hour boy-girl visit with all 4 feet on the floor and the door open.... sounds like a dare.

Yeah, adcoms definitetly prefer that you're getting it from your hand and not with another human for so many reasons.

The only school that would care is Loma Linda.
