Hi everyone!

I had a question about health insurance after optometry school. What do most OD's do? Is there a group insurance plan new grads can join after school?

It will depend almost entirely on your employment situation.

As an employee of a large clinic/practice, there will probably be a group plan in place. Private practice: you'll have decide whether or not to offer something for your employees (costly and hard to get a decent rate).

Go to work as an "independent contractor" for Walmart/commercial and you're on your own.

Almost always, your best bet is to go through a local independent agent who knows what plans have panel providers in your area and can write policies for various companies.

If you're healthy, my personal preference is an HSA with a high deductible major medical policy.
