So I have both a term life and a disability policy. I do some whitewater kayaking (mostly class 4) and some backcountry and snowcat skiing. Any experts on here or people with firsthand info on whether insurance would pay in the case of an accident in one of thesse sports? I don't recall specific questions about participation in these activities when getting the policies, although the skiing is a new interest that I did not do when I signed up. I think there may have been a question about "rafting" that I said no to since I kayak, not raft. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Yea, they pay, unless the contract says they won't. They usually only ask about climbing, diving, parachuting and one other I can't recall, but it isn't kayaking or skiing.

You should be fine. ActiveDutyMD is right in how the insurance would likely pay out. Here is an example of one disability carrier's questionnaire (this may be old and should not be a representation of every carrier's requirements): http://i.imgur.com/cbFMp.jpg

You better re-read your application to both. The application should be in the back of the policy for your review. Hazardous activities are always asked about. Not mentioning them or the agent saying that is irrelevant can be viewed as fraud, nullify the contract at claim time. I have seen it happen more often than not...Why? If a company can get out of paying you the millions they owe you they will.
