Hello all,

My school currently offers a BIS Degree - Bachelor of Integrative Studies.

It's mostly reserved for transfer students, but I would be able to use it to complete all of the pre-reqs plus the advanced level science courses I'm interested in, and I wouldn't have to major in science.

I'm wondering if this would be looked upon negatively by ADCOMS or if it would help me to stand out a little bit?

I would basically be designing my own bachelors degree.

No one cares what your degree is in. Someone may ask about it at an interview.

Personally I think that sounds like an awesome idea. Take the bare minimum pre-reqs and the science courses you like. Then some really easy psychology classes.

My school has a similar degree that I've thought about. I would imagine that it's pretty much useless if you don't end up going to medical school though.

Yeah, I'm sure adcoms won't see through that.

Eh I'm sure if he's not taking some classes like Psych 1, Math 1, Biology 8, the person should be fine. It's not like adcoms remember what Psych 243 was or how difficult it is anyway.

The same can be said for almost all B.S. degree except the technical ones.

I'd be doing Bio, Chem, Orgo, Biochem, Physics, Calc, this really cool class called Medical Microbio, Genetics, Behavioral Psych, plus 5-6 semesters of a foreign language, and tutoring and teaching classes along with all my gen-eds that have to get done for the school.

It would basically be a B.A. in Science with a few more humanities and an emphasis on teaching.

This would just be a way for me to take all the classes I'm interested in without having to take an extra 30 credits (or pay for them, rather.)

Thanks for the replies everyone!

Sounds like an enriching plan. You can always add a practical minor (economics) or get an MBA or Credential if you change your mind about med school....but at least you will enjoy your undergrad! Have fun.
