For you upcoming applicants and seasoned veterans how do/did you deal with competition between classmates for plastics?

I ask because we have a dept. at my school and I'm not the only one in my class interested in our program.

I dont have a problem applying and competing against nameless, faceless (until interviews kick in) other applicants. But when its a decent friend of yours that vying for a spot youre after in such a small field....its...well, a little harder, ya know?

My intentions are to make myself the best applicant I can be, and I know there is nothing I can do about everyone else --but I just can't keep those ultra-competitive thoughts from ringing in my head.

You could also try serenading your competition with this song. With enough persistence, some will head to the psych ward for a permanent room.

For those harder-to-crack nuts, you need to hack their computer and make sure the video is running in the background at all times.

Actually, if you can get that far, might as well change their ROL and leave the psychological torture in the bag for another day

Good luck

I agree- it IS hard. But the bottom line for this field and for all others is that you should only worry about variables that you can control. Jack's board scores, Sally's killer research, the fact that Aaron is beloved by the chair-- none of those things have anything to do with you, and you can't influence them in any way. Focus on yourself, on making your own application and interview process as optimal as possible, and hopefully when the dust settles you'll be happy.

Shouldn't this be "Intra-Class" competition since you're competing with members of your own class?

That said, Sabotage gets more and more genius every time I watch it.
