I am just wondering if such a thing is possible? There is a professor at another University that deals with the type of research I am really interested in. This is no laboratory setting type research, its more on survey/data gathering/informative/correlative type of research.

Has any of you done something similar or ever heard about it? To make this research idea that I have work, we would utilize different clinical settings to gather data and then do the comparison and analysis.

Thanks in advance,

Eddie

Who would handle the IRBs, etc?

There's a lot of paperwork that goes into collaborating between institutions (money, liabilities, acknowledgements are all issues), and without a PI willing to sponsor it at your institution I don't think it's going to be possible (especially clinical research). Your best bet might be to contact the PI at the other institution, get details and get involved, and then have them approach someone at your institution with a ready made plan (but if they were interested in collaborating with someone where you are they probably would have already). Unless you have something to offer them, ie a patient population you've already signed up or some expertise on your part that they don't have, I don't see them going through the trouble, they would rather you work at their institution if all you have to offer is interest in their research.

Yo creo que es posible...😀

Well,I think you can do it, but I don't know how you would apply. If you were a college student you need a certain number of credits and certain grades. If it is inter-institutional you might be able to apply for it as job or even a volunteer. You should talk with this professor and see what you have to do, Señor.

It might be best to work with him over a summer when you can work in his "shop". If he would be willing to accept you then you might be able to get some sponsorship/funding to cover a small stipend that will cover modest living expenses over the summer.

Collecting data close to home and collaborating in the data analysis and writing could be done but you would need IRB approval to conduct research with human subjects at your institution. That may require a local faculty member as your sponsor and as the local PI.
