With minimal fanfare, NRMP has posted an interactive version of charting outcomes.

You plug in your stats, it tells you how people who matched your stats did.

Whether this is helpful or will simply feed the herd insanity is still to be seen.

Here. We. Go.

Cue thousands of posts: "NRMP says I have a 2% chance to match, what do you guys think"

Doesn't have YOG on there, which is going to be an issue for some.
what's YOG

This is a great idea in theory but terrible in practice.

Their disclaimer is:
  • USE GOOD JUDGMENT. This tool uses data from past Matches and is NOT designed to predict success or failure in the Match.
But that is exactly what people will use it for and it will give absurd values that can't possibly take into account the specifics details necessary to match. Charting outcomes is flawed to begin with and shouldn't substitute for in person discussions with PDs in your field of interest. I think this will only make things worse.

The two are supplementary. One could just as reasonably say that anecdotal opinions from a PD is flawed to begin with and shouldn't substitute for nationally representative data. PDs see competitiveness from the lens of the applications that they receive and few students they advise.
