Hello. I've been browsing the forums for quite some time now and had a couple questions

I recently graduated from University of Maryland and majored in Business Marketing. My final GPA was a 3.2. I am interested in DS and was wondering if my GPA is too low? I was looking to take the pre req courses this fall, winter, and spring in order to help bring my GPA up a little bit. I was looking to do this at a community college though.

So I guess my question is whether or not my 3.2 GPA is too low? And if it would be a good idea to take the pre req courses at a community college? Thanks for your help. 🙂

Ah so my GPA would be based off my pre req courses? So it basically starts anew? My 3.2 would be completely neglected?

You have a cumulative GPA, science GPA, and a biology/chemistry/physics GPA. Acronyms are cGPA, sGPA, and BCP GPA, respectively.

If you take your pre-requisite classes at a university (this is important) and get good grades in them, your sGPA and BCP GPA will be great. Your cGPA might be lower due to your previous non-science classes, but in the grand scheme of things, your current GPA shouldn't hold you back.

Good luck on your path.

I graduated with a business degree at about 3.2 and worked for some time before chasing dental school. It can be done as long as you do well in your science pre-reqs and on the DAT. Your BCP can be near 4 and depending on how you have done in gen ed math classes your science GPA could be 3.7+ which will make you very competitive. This is true of course, only as long as you do near 4.0 work in your pre-reqs and other bios that you will likely want to take. PM me if you want more details on the type of schedule I had, including work, and DAT prep etc.
