Hello Everyone,

I have always been interested in being a podiatrist. I have never really taken any science classes, and I wasn't the best student early on in college. I am not a junior and have changed my grades from C's to mostly B's and A's. I was planning on taking 4 science classes this summer. I have been teaching myself the general chemistry through a youtube channel called "the organic chemist". I do not know if this is a wise idea or if I am just setting myself up for failure. I am planning to spend the next month and a half preparing. Any feedback would be appreciated. I do not really have much guidance, and I do not want to ruin my chances of becoming a podiatrist.

Course schedule:
Gen chem 1- 3 week course June 25-July 15
Bio 111 - June 25- July 15
Gen chem 2- July 15- August 5
bio 112- same dates.

Welcome to SDN.

Four science classes attempted in one summer seems a bit risky when you have no experience taking college-level science classes.

In case you were unaware, SDN also has a Pre-Podiatry Forum here: Pre-Podiatry Students where you can Search and seek out or ask for advice relevant to your career plans. This forum's focus is on those seeking advice about applying to MD and DO medical schools.

I would probably advise against taking four classes during the summer of any kind, let alone science classes. Especially not the ones you listed.

1) General Chemistry, at least at my undergrad, was the biggest weed-out class in all of premed. It was made to be difficult and it was a decent amount of information. But you want to take it in three weeks with two biology classes alongside it?
2) Keep in mind that all summer classes are going to be faster than their on-season counterparts. The summer semester is usually 10 weeks, whereas the on-season semesters are usually 16 weeks. This means you're going to be going significantly faster over the summer. Classes are generally easier in the summer, and that's (in part) for this reason.

It's not a hard "no", but be very careful before you do this and go into it expecting a very full summer.

Are those classes with or without the lab?

Last Summer, I took general chemistry I and II with labs. It was tough but doable. I volunteered or worked one day a week and class was 4 hours a day, 4 days a week. I could have probably taken a biology class that spanned the full 10 week Summer semester, but it would have been tough. I'd recommend doing just the chemistry sequence over the Summer.
