Thanks for posting. I didn't know only 6 programs had full year-long internship requirements!

I don't put much credence in the doc vs business admin argument. The New York times ran an article similar to this last year or two years ago... basically saying "should hospitals be run by doctors?" that points to an article from a few years ago on the topic. When you look at the numbers, very few hospitals are run by M.D.s.

Why? I believe, when it comes down to it, health care is a business. And businesses require a unique skill set that isn't taught in medical school. Doctors are trained in clinical diagnosis, not business admin skills (finance, organizational management, etc.).

I think it's something that would be interesting to know more about. I wonder how many of the MD executives have went back to pursue an MHA or MBA as that appears to be something not all together unheard of.

I couldn't agree more! I hate the whole argument that MDs should be running the administrative show....um because they are MDs!? They're trained in treating patients not running the administrative end. Don't get me wrong I have respect for their work and think that an effective administrator communicates effectively with practitioners , I just think popular opinion sometimes has this grandiose infatuation with physicians which leads to such articles being posted (insinuating that administrators should also be clinicians).. I don't think anyone can do both at the same time, effectively. Just my 2 cents. It's interesting, thanks for sharing Mrcool 🙂
