Had a patient present in clinic today following recent tonsillitis treated with azithromycin followed by doxy. She had two days of eye pain and today morning she had a moderate amount of blood beneath her eyelid and pronounced photophobia. Was not a subconjunctival hemorraghe, no history of bleeding disorders, young lady, not on any anticoagulants.

We sent her out to an ophto but what the heck? stumper can't find much online to figure out what caused that. Any ideas?

The patient had pharygo-conjunctival fever.

Its a viral disease that starts with sore throat and pharyngitis - a couple of days later, the patient gets subconjuctival hemorrhage.

It's good to have the ophthalmologist look, but in general (with certain exceptions), its a harmless viral "cold" that looks really bad because of the red eyes.

We would see it all the time. The patient had a sore throat and didn't go to the doctor because it was "just a sore throat." Then the red eyes and BOOOOM - off to the ophthalmologist!

but thats the thing wasnt subconjunctival. her eyes weren't red at all. it looked like she had tears of blood basically.
