Adcoms only please ----

A year and a half ago, I took a Physics course and got a C. At the end of the course, (this was after using office hours, the proff got to know me, etc) the professor was actually so impressed with my character of perseverance to stick with the course instead of dropping it, she actually offered to write me a letter of recommendation for medical school.

At first I immediately didn't like that idea bec I'd obviously rather have letters from proffs whom I excelled in their classes. But then recently I was thinking it over, and this proff obviously saw something unique in me to offer a letter for a student who got a C in her class. This may be a remarkable letter.

However, med schools may just see it as a student who "works really hard and perseveres" but ultimately does not always succeed which may be red flag to them as well.

Any advice on this? This was a year and a half ago, so if I do want to take her up on it, I'd like to ask soon so I'm still somewhat fresh in her mind. thanks.

On the contrary, if you have done well since this course, the writer's glowing praise will reinforce a positive perception of you.

True, although I did not take a "Physics-like" course since then. They may just think I sucked at Physics but stuck w the course anyway. Yay me.
Meaning, I have improved since, but then again, I haven't taken a course similar to that course so idk if that proves much, other than the fact that I got a C in Physics I but I persevered and the Professor was highly impressed w me.

It might be useful to offset the overall effect of the C, if you are sure it will be positive.
