Hello All,

I have an upcoming presentation on a topic of choice for my peds rotation. Just wondering if anyone could think of some interesting topics/research possibilities within the field of pediatrics.

Thanks for the help!!!

Sorry, there aren't any.

For sources, I suggest Up To Date. Look up topics regarding the Rochester and the Philadelphia criteria. These criteria are used as guidelines for treatment of febrile infants who are considered at low risk for serious bacterial infection (SBI).

I don't care too much peds but this is somewhat of an interesting topic because for one, it is practical (not some esoteric, rare genetic disease) and for another, it is something that pediatricians and em docs deal with on a day to day basis (especially during the winter season).

It was one of the few topics in peds that I found useful to know on the wards. This was because we had a regular inflow of infants with fever and no other abnormal symptoms who showed some laboratory anomalies. It really helped me on rounds for drawing a treatment plan for these patients.

Peds is full of cool topics..... but I guess I would present on a topic relevent to your service (e.g. out patient vs. general inpatient vs. cardio inpatient, etc.)....

Protein losing enteropathy after the Fontan procedure.

Silent murmurs in children.

What happens to children s/p surgical palliation of congenital heart disease when they grow up, get out of their child's insurance (e.g. parents' or sCHIP)?

Efficacy of palivizumab in the prevention of RSV infection in sick kids.

Silent strokes and transient ischemic attacks in children with sickle cell disease. Incidence, relevance, outcome, treatment.

I always base my presentations on conditions that always comes in to a particular floor which is treated symptomatically... and then I am always like: "what the h$ll, this treatment plan is ridiculous...."

2 more weeks of peds left.....
