Hosp seeks OK to shut down

A Brooklyn hospital that filed for bankruptcy and attempted to merge with nearby facilities in order to stave off closure has finally thrown in the towel.
Interfaith Medical Center in Bedford-Stuyvesant filed a legal motion late Tuesday seeking approval to begin closing on Aug. 15.
The filing in federal bankruptcy court comes less than two weeks after the state Department of Health rejected a last-ditch restructuring plan submitted by the ailing hospital.
The agency must also OK a separate closure plan so that the facility can transfer out patients and shut down operations, a process that’s expected to be concluded on Nov. 14.
Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, a mayoral candidate who has been a vocal opponent of similar hospital closures in the borough, said he still plans to fight to keep Interfaith open.

So the residents at that program are going to have to find another program to finish up like Sacred Heart. I hope that they all can land a place to go.

usually a program would close in a year, meaning those residents would have the one year required in almost every state to be licensed. if you check the "whats new" of CASPR there are always programs willing to take someone for a second or third year.

Those two hospitals are closing before the year is up...but the profession is pretty good about protecting residents. They should be fine. For everyone else that clerked there already and did well and wanted to chose them- not so lucky.

Interfaith is scheduled to close their ED and inpatient services in mid September. Its going to be pretty tough maintaining a program for ~10 months after those two are gone. Hopefully the residents can get a transfer to another program or optimally the hospital doesnt close. Fingers crossed for the residents at that program.

Also of note, it looks like Long Island College hospital is in some trouble as well for the NYC area.
