INTERFOLIO - Include coversheet?

I am using Interfolio to send my LOR?s. Should I include a coversheet, explaining why I am using this service and that the letters are confidential? Or would this actually raise questions about confidentiality of the letters?

When you add a LOR to your Interfolio collection, there is an option to make the letter confidential or not. If you choose confidential, it pops up a confidentiality sheet that you print off, sign, and give to your recommender. It's sent along with their letter and it let's them know that their comments are confidential.

Likewise, when Interfolio sends out a document, they provide a cover sheet explaining that this letter is indeed confidential.

Does it need to say anything else? When I signed up for interfolio.com I had to fill in my AMCAS ID # and they said they needed it for coversheet purposes. This led me to believe that they already made a coversheet for me.

True but yet False. I've just begun using interfolio also. Yes it does ask for AMCAS ID, however in the help section it says that we should make a coversheet and upload it to interfolio.

I used interfolio and I uploaded a cover sheet and included it with each packet of letters. It had my AMCAS ID, Name, Social Security number, and something like: These confidential letters of recommendation have been assembled by Interfolio, a letter forwarding service for the medical school application of Skypilot. I also included the blurb about Interfolio from their website after that.

This question is for Skypolit or anyone else who has already applied.

Did any schools give you grief for using Interfolio? Some schools have specific guidelines about how your LOR's are supposed to look or be processed. Penn, for example, says that letters should arrive separately and directly from the writers. With Interfolio, however, I have had some of my letters on hand and converted for several months. I don't think it will be possible to individualize the letters like some schools want. Furthermore, the pre-med advisers at my school told us to sign up and use Interfolio, so its not like I'm going against standard policy.

Anyway, enough ranting. Any reassurance would be appreciated. Good luck everyone.

It looks like an additional cover letter would be highly redundant.

I don't a cover letter with the AMCAS ID and Social Security number would be redundant. But it does sound like the blurb about Interfolio would be redundant.

As far as the concerns about getting grief from the schools. They want the letters received directly from the writers, but by that they mean that they don't want the letters being sent out by you, the applicant, and they want them to be confidential.

Almost all applicants use some type of letter forwarding service, whether it is through their school's premed department or from Interfolio. The only additional thing which some med schools might want is a committee letter written by your school's premed committee if it is available.

Interfolio costs $5 per packet sent to each medical school plus a $12 membership fee. I think I spent about $100. For me, it made the application process much easier.
