I'm hoping I might be able to use an LOR service like Interfolio for my many applications this year.

The issue I have with doing so is that reading their site I get the impression that unless your referee submits an electronic document with an electronic signature, they are pretty much useless for getting signed copies out to the schools of your choice. Is this the case?

Ideally, I'd like to just be able to give my referees one single address (ie. Interfolio) to which they could mail a single regular signed paper copy. If the signature/letter has to be processed/converted to an electronic form, I'd prefer the service take care of this for them.

Are there any reliable Interfolio alternatives?

Feedback/experiences?

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,

I used interfolio, and your recommendation writers don't need to convert their writings into electronic document. They CAN do it, but also can fax or mail the documents. When they are writing your recommendation, you are supposed to print out a piece of paper from interfolio site, which has a barcode on it. So when these writers send in your document, interfolio will take care of the rest. The service is great, and I highly recommend it.

Have I been living under a rock, since when the hell did profs start being called referees?

Thanks. Just what I wanted to hear. I will definitely try them out.

useful information.

I was looking into them as well.

THANKS!

As for secondary apps, do you need all LOR ready to go before even sending in the aamca. Or is it ok to send in LOR after submission or secondary if need be, I am worried a little bit about timeline of some of the profs.

thanks

some schools don't want your LOR right away but mostly the faster your file is complete, the faster the admins can look at it...through interfolio and other companies you can send in each LOR as it comes in or you can wait til all your letter writers finish

should we ask for referee's to start writing letters of recommendation before third year ends or do you ask in summer as the secondaries arrive (my school year ends in april so i might not have contact with profs during summer)?

Right now is fine, just have them fax or mail them to interfolio. I used interfolio and thought it was great. Interestingly enough the school that accepted me had their own letter forms so I did not actually use my interfolio letters.
