I'm trying to shadow an oral surgeon but he's asking me if I have any character references. Is it possible to use interfolio to send some references of mine to his office?

Did they ask for a letter of recommendation specifically or just a REFERENCE? Because usually asking for a reference just means they want the contact info for a supervisor or coworker in a previous job or something like that

Or tell him to forget it and that you're not asking for a job, and go shadow someone else. I had a dentist tell me the same thing and that he wanted to do an interview and I said to just forget it.
