Interfolio??

LOVE it!!! i havent actually sent them to med schools yet (im applying this spring too), but it has been amazing with getting people to write them. they are so relieved when they find out they only have to write one letter. i tell them to address it "dear admissions comittee" or something like that. plus its nice and easy especially if you decide to add a school at the last minute, you dont have to go back and ask people to find the letter, and resend it. you do all the work, and its not much.
its 15 bucks for one year, plus i think 5 for each school you send it to. not much compared to what we spend for apps, mcats, kaplan, etc.

I recommend to use it. It's an agent to centralize your LORs so your writers don't have to write many letters for many schools. In case, the med school doesn't get the LOR, you can request them to send it again instead of seeing your professor to write it again (and hope that his computer didn't get attacked by virus or hacker). 🙂

Do yourself a favor and sign up for this awesome service. Professors aren't easy to track down during the summer months when you need your LOR sent out. I would ask for LORs now and have them sent to Interfolio that way you can pick and choose which letters to send whenever you need.

Youd be a fool not to use it.
So...one of my letter writers went to PCOM...and I'd like it if he'd write a more tailored letter to that school. WOuld I have him just write a generic one to Interfolio and then one to PCOM?
pappy- i would still have that letter sent to interfolio. you have a database once you sign up, and you actually have to print a cover sheet for each teacher/dr/etc. who is writing you a letter. that cover sheet has something like a UPC on it, and interfolio scans the letter in when they get it. you give each letter a title, like "Dr. Jones, LOR, Orgo, DO schools", this way, when you pick to send you know which to send. especially helpful if you're applying DO/MD, and some of your letters are specific for osteopathic medicine. you can label one letter "Dr John - PCOM" and one "Dr John - General letter". its great, like someone said, if a school says they lost your letter, you dont have to bother the letter writer again.
If that whole thing sounds insane because my mind is kind of fried, sorry. but i swear to you, like the others, interfolio rocks! 🙂

I signed up and it is easy to use and organized.
Although I provided my professors with a pre-paid and pre-addressed traceable Express Envelope to make sure it arrives at Interfolio.

Do the letter writers get to submit their letters online directly to interfolio?

When I used it last year it worked fine, but two years before it almost screwed my fiancee over and my friend over (i think it's a piece of crap).
For some reason Interfolio only sent the coverletters of the recs for my fiancee to all the schools, so her apps ended up being late. Thank goodness her app was strong enough to withstand the late LORs but her interviews did come later. She didnt even know that the LORs werent completely sent in until she wondered what was up with the schools not replying, so she called them up. They were like Yah we only received the cover letters. The same thing happened to a friend of my who applied to dental school, but again luckily the late app didnt hurt him significantly.
Long story short, it's a good service as long as you follow up with them, dont trust anyeone else but yourself I say. The admissions comittee woudlnt care who sent it in late.
