I've searched and I haven't found anything exactly like what I need to know. Basically I just want to know how interfolio works. Does the person writing the letter send it to interfolio and then they upload it or what?

Yes. Or the writer can upload it electronically.

Also, it is awesome. The first time I applied, my school did not use interfolio, and now they do. It is so much easier, and you can choose what letters you want to send to what schools.

agreed, if you're applying to a ton of schools like i did, it made my life and teh life of the letter writer so much easier.

Do you have to send new letters of recommendation to Interfolio every cycle or will Interfolio hold the letters over from one cycle to the next?

If you shadowed someone this summer in 2008 and got a letter dated September 2008 would DO schools think that the letter was "stale" if you were applying for the class entering in August 2010?

Yeah, although I am not quite sure I'm hearing this right. There are only a few DO schools that took interfolio electronically, Touro Harlem and Drexel being the only ones I recall. The rest were mailed snail mail through interfolio.

I was in your situation a year ago. I heard it was good but didnt know squat about it. Go to the website and read all you can. Basically, you indicate the name and position of the letter writer. Print out an instruction sheet that you will then give/send to the LOR writer and he/she can send their letter in a number of ways. All they have to do is understand basic directions and your work is done. 👍

I believe that you just have to pay every year to keep your account live. I used it and it is well worth it. If nothing else you can see who hasn't completed a letter as promised and then you can go harass them to get it done.
