I did a search on this topic and found some helpful threads but I just wanted to make sure I had everything straight.

I plan on applying this summer to both MD and DO schools and want to use the Interfolio service. From what I understand, I have my letter writers send their recommendations to this website. When I apply, do I then have the letters sent from Interfolio to AMCAS or AACOMAS or to the actual schools themselves? Is there anything else I'm missing?

At Interfolio, we can house all of your confidential documents in one place. They are digitized so that you can send them as many times as you like to as many schools as you like. There is no need to request multiple letters from the same writer! We can also store transcripts, CVs, resumes, and more.

Once your letters are aggregated on Interfolio, they can be sent to AMCAS or directly to the program or institution to which you are applying. This allows you to worry less about your letters of recommendation and focus more on the big picture that is applying to medical school.

For Allopathic schools, you send all your letters from interfolio to AMCAS. AACOMAS does not collect your letters of rec.. You will have to have interfolio send them to each school individually when the schools request them, which is usually with the secondary application.

Do you also send the transcripts to school? is it also a $6 charge? didn't see anything on the website that mentioned transcripts.

@mzblue We can facilitate the aggregation and delivery of transcripts via Interfolio.

You are charged per delivery which means it is most cost effective to send all of your application materials (resume, transcript, recommendations, writing sample) through our service.

I didn't know you could send transcripts through interfolio as well. Thanks for all the useful information.

If you are only applying to allopathic schools that are participating in AMCAS's letter service, then you don't need interfolio. AMCAS basically does what interfolio does with it's letter service, as far as I know.

Interfolio will be helpful if you are applying to allopathic schools that are not participating in AMCAS's letter service (e.g. Albany Medical College) AND you do not have a letter service at your undergrad institution.

If you are applying to osteopathic schools you pretty much have to go with interfolio, as AACOMAS has sort of merged with interfolio.
