Hello,

I was wondering if someone could breakdown how to use Interfolio / if they recommend using it?

With this tool, are letters stored and can be used again in the future, without re-asking the prof to send them out?

Any insight is appreciated.

Thank you

Also if anyone with interfolio experience could share, how long does it take for a letter to be received by interfolio from the day that it is sent?

Thanks!

I also have this question. I am confused about what forms to send my professor along with an interfolio request.

I just payed for this service a few weeks ago. There is an option to send requests by mail or by email. I've requested by email and it just sends whomever a request to their email for a letter with a link to upload it.

I am using interfolio and have no problem at all. I have my recommendations from a year ago and as long as you "paid" for those years, the documents are there for you.
so how long it takes are based on how professors upload.
one of my professors uploaded by using her account (she had her own id for interfolio... meaning many students also use interfolio?), and it was available in my folder instantly.
other professor just sent it in via mail and I think it took around 4~5 days to upload to your folder.

So how does interfolio link with AADSAS?
And say I get a letter for dental school apps this year, could I re-use that letter for another cycle/program etc. in the future without asking the prof again? Is that how it works - they are stored on there kind of like a database.
Thanks for the help!

interfolio will ask for your AADSAS ID number and other AADSAS info. I used it last year and it was fine.

Yes they are stored in a database. it will be there for as long as you pay for their services.

yes, like what FanOfCostco said, recommendations are saved in its database as long as you paid for those years.
Also, in the "account setting" for interfolio, there is section where you can add ID's. I added my Dentpin and I will add my AADSAS ID when I create one after June 4th (make sure your profile match exactly as AADSAS/ADA. my friend had hard time fixing due to little un-match info in her application)
You can search on SDN how to upload recommendations from interfolio to your application. I will recommendation that you look over the steps before the application starts 🙂

So how much does Interfolio cost? I didn't know which option to select

I picked the least expensive option. It is good for one year. But the letters are stored for five (I think) years. If I need them again in that timeframe I just pay another year fee and use them again. Oh ya, there is also a sending fee. Every time you send out your letters, they charge you a "small" fee (I think $5) to do it.

They get you coming, and they get you going... But it was worth it.

Once the new cycle opens, there will be matching forms from AADSAS that you will have to bring to each professor to sign so that that each letter can be linked to AADSAS, so I suggest that you guys do not completely cut off all contact with your professors after getting your LOR's.

If you're just using it for this application cycle and you think you'll get in, and you're just using it for LORs, then the $19 for 1 year plan is best. If you're concerned that you'll need to re-access the docs for next cycle admission, then they have a $39.90, 3-year plan.

So what do I give my professors now? How do they link the letters to my account?

Open the interfolio account. Start a new letter. Enter the letter writer information (name, etc.) then it will allow you to print off a cover sheet with a barcode on it that you give to the letter writer. Either they follow the directions on the sheet to upload the document by computer (make sure they SIGNED the document) or they mail in the letter and include the paper with the barcode on it.

I used it to apply to DO schools, and it sound like dental schools are a little different. If there is another form to fill out and sign, then you need to figure out what to do with that part.

You can buy the cheap version now, or pay for the three year version. It depends on how confident you are with your application. I was confident, so only bought the one year. But again, letters are stored for a length of time. If you need them in that time, just pay the fee again and they are accessible.
