Would a PMR or Sports medicine rotation be better for a neurologist in internship year interested in pain down the road?

PM&R IMO. Sports med will teach you a lot about tendonitis and acute sprains/strains, or if you do it with ortho, more than you ever wanted to know about shoulders and knees. PM&R will teach you a lot more about spine, the #1 referal to pain.

It shouldn't be just any old PM&R rotation, you may not get much out of it if its an inpatient oriented rotation. Make sure you find out if they have a busy musculoskeletal/spine clinic and rotate there since that will get you access to spine pathology and MSK problems in general. You may even get to see or do some EMGs while you're there, which would be a plus for you since you are doing Neurology.
