Last week I was accepted into pharmacy school. It works out really nice, because I only have one class (statistics) to take this spring semester, so I can work. I'll have about 8 months before pharmacy school to work. I'd like to start getting some intern hours. My question is......

1) If I applied somewhere to get intern hours, would they expect that I have experience and that I would know what I was doing. Would they have any expectations.

2) What type of Duties could I expect to perform

thanks in advance for any advice

1. There are a lot of places that hire people without experience. I think it is a huge benefit that you are accepted to school. There is typically a huge turn around with workers and I believe they would see you as someone that is committed.

2. Normal tech duties. Depending on your choice of work. (Hospital or Retail) There are a lot of threads out there on SDN that explain work duties. Do a search

3. IMPORTANT to note... You will NOT actually receive "intern hours" until you are actually "enrolled" in a school. I can't speak for every state, but I believe most if not all expect you to be validated as someone actually IN school to receive "intern hours" This means that you will start receiving the hours the first day of school providing you have applied and been validated as a "pharmacy intern"

4. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

If you are doing retail, I would definitely suggest working now as a pharmacy technician. This way you will learn all the basic duties in maybe a month, then after you have redeemed yourself you can be promoted to intern. Also, intern hours are not always available right off the bat, so definitely get a job as a pharmacy technician first. there's really not a big difference between them and interns, the only thing is their salaries andthat they can talk a little more about medicine to customers

It wouldn't really matter to me if i got a job as an "intern" or just a regular clerk. I just want to get experience. I don't want to look like a complete fool when I start my rotations because I don't know much.
