Hi! I have just recently received my acceptance to pharmacy school, and applied to be switched over from a tech to an intern at the pharmacy i work at. However, when i switched over, my pay didnt change 😕 The pharmacy intern coordinator informed me that it would go up at least $4.00 from what I am currently getting...but it didnt.

Is there anyway I can bring this up to my manager without sounding greedy...or awkward lol?😕

Just be up front about it and ask for a reason why your pay didn't change, and mention that the pharmacy intern coordinator informed you that your pay should go up at least $4.

it depends though ..

but that's how it is in california

Doesn't make sense Much more likely

Actually, it makes perfect sense because we don't get our intern license until we start school here. Therefore, we don't get intern pay until we start classes.

EDIT: but I guess it varies state to state

I can't speak for every state, but I know in Florida and Georgia there is no possible way to even become an intern until you actually start pharmacy school. I've been accepted to school in Georgia and I currently work in Florida, but I can't switch over in either state until I start classes (if Georgia was different I would've moved there already lol)

Apparently it is the same in California and Arizona.

Show me your intern license? Oh, don't have it? Looks like your pay isn't changing until I see one.

That's what your boss will say.

First, you need to get your intern license if you dont have it yet.

Next, I would contact the payroll person if you have your intern license. Usually, you just have to stay on top of them. Dont be scared to ask if you deserve. It is what you deserve after all, right?

Oh and in SC we can be interns before we start pharm school....I became an intern in June before I started school in Aug...having never worked in a pharmacy before.

Just ask the pharmacy district manager now for peace of mind, just be nice about it. Everyone wants to be paid fairly, and the PDM will understand that.

Saying that, I know people who were paid as techs even though they were interns, just because the store didn't have enough money to pay interns. Eventually they got intern pay, but after 6 months or so of working in the store as interns at tech pay.

And it really depends on the state with licenses and whatnot. I was paid as an intern while my intern license was still being processed. Though I hadn't gotten it yet, they knew that I'd be getting it soon, and they knew that I was in pharmacy school.

At most jobs it normally takes about a month before you actually see a change in pay on your paycheck/statement. Look at what dates you're being paid for.

fyi cvs intern yearly pay increase occurred may 30, i believe it was company wide.

I didn't see a pay raise until school started. Oh n it takes a few weeks to process

nope im absolutely positive I dont need an intern license. but maybe i should just wait a few weeks. If it doesnt change tho, what should i say without sounding demanding? =/

Just go to your manager and talk to them about the situation. Be polite about it, but do step up and ask. If you're supposed to be getting $4 extra, that's not being greedy. You're only verifying that is what you're supposed to be getting.
