Congrats to all who finished internship. What thoughts did people take away from the year?

I finished intern year about a year ago. I have to say that what I learned most was good values in delivery of patient care. Also how to accept that sometimes work takes longer than your set hours and it's all about doing right by your patients and being part of a team.

It's been three years since intern year. My takeaways from it have been:
-I'm glad I'm doing ophthalmology. An IM residency would drive me crazy.
-It's a team based effort for patient care. No matter how smart or good you are, you don't know everything.
-Diseases aren't confined to one part of the body. You don't have to know everything about every part of the human body but you need to know something. Most importantly, you better know if a disease or condition is gonna kill or gravely harm someone.
-Comfort zone: if you're not comfortable doing something or managing something (especially if you don't have the background to attempt it), don't do it. That's how you get into trouble, big time!
-Patient care. Learning medicine from textbooks is great and all, but until you actually are in an intense setting, you don't truly know medicine. You learn that medicine isn't a 9 to 5 thing, and patient care is an art. These last two were probably the most important things about my intern year.

This right here, is the entire point of intern year.
