I'm looking for a "baby textbook" that is readable and well-liked and something I can cover in 3 months.

Also, I want to get a pocket-book - something similar to Harriet Lane or Mont Reid.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks!

pocket book- i would recommend Ferri's practical care of the med patient

I carry Sabatine's Pocket Medicine. It has a lot of good stuff, and also has literature references if you feel motivated to find the original articles. It's also a little slimmer than some of the other pocket books- leaves room for H&Ps and Hemoccult developer.

It's still a prett big textbook, but I hear Cecil Essentials of Medicine is a good "condensed" textbook. Of course I'm having to plug it because the author (Dr. Andreoli) is my attending at the moment.

Take a look at Medicine by Fishman. It's very managable for 3 months (I did it in one month). It is also written to be used during the medicine clerkship. I have both Cecil's Essentials and Fishman's Medicine and think they are both great. I decided to use Fishman for my rotation and did great on the test.

Whats a good book for writing Admit Orders based on the certain diagnosis?
