Dear members

Can anyone suggest me what are my chances ?

I have a BSc in Computer Engineering(4 years) (Graduated 2004) GPA 3.54 from out of USA. I am USA PR(Green card holder) now and living in the USA. I want to attend to USA medical school. Now I contacted with University of Buffalo and they said, even if I will do all pre med courses or a post brac which will cover all pre med, they need 60 credit of higher study in USA School. Is this requirements for all other medical school as well ? Will I have to go to school for 2 years to complete 60 credit which I think equivalent to a MS ?

Thanks in advance.

Generally yes.

It's important to not do grad work. You have to do undergrad, in the US, at a university. You have to produce the assets by which you can be compared with the US kids who just got their bachelors degrees.

Look at after-work programs like Harvard Extension or Berkeley Extension, and also look at doing a 2nd bachelors in a bioscience.

Funding is extremely difficult, these days, for anybody needing to do more undergrad after completing a bachelors degree.

Generally with getting into med school, you don't get credit for having worked in another field. You have to get into med school by the same rules as the 21 year olds who grew up in the US. This means lots of undergrad science with a very high GPA, a very high MCAT score, lots of clinical exposure through volunteering (hundreds of hours), recommendations from faculty and employers, and as much credibility as you can get that you comprehend the practice of medicine in the US.

Your age doesn't matter.

Look for posts by ScottishChap for more complete info.

Best of luck to you.

If one has an international undergrad diploma, a lot of US MD schools want 90 credit hours, at least one requires a full bachelors degree, but there a few that only require 30 hours of US or Canadian undergrad coursework, which rarely might not include all the prerequisites.

DO med schools, OTOH, will consider international transcripts, so you wouldn't have to retake as many classes.
