Hey everyone,
I'm a 4th year Medical student from Australia.
In the next 12 months i have a 7 week elective block and a 4 week elective block.
Which i'll be doing in the USA to get my US clinical experience.
I have a green-card and got 232 on step 1.
My medical school wants me to start sorting out where i want to go for the that time period.

Any suggestions where is the best place to go for a good psych rotation where I can have a good experience plus get a good LOR.
And should i do another Psych rotation or an IM rotation? or a subI or whats the best option.

I will have completed my core rotations before i do my elective.

Thanks for any help.

Top ranked places like Emory, Johns Hopkins, Penn, UCSF would be a fantastic experience

I know that Cornell accepts international students for rotations in psych and other specialties.
I second splik re: inpatient and consult being best experiences, especially if you want to get a letter.
US electives are typically 4 weeks, so you can schedule two of them. Your best chance to get an elective is during off peak months, i.e. not during the months US medical students do their sub-Is/aways; December (maybe November) through May is the best time for international medical students.

I have no knowledge of the value of IM rotations for international applicants to psych residencies.

This is the second post in two days where you have called Emory 'top ranked' or 'rock star'. What do you know about the program that makes you view it with such esteem?

I posted about that already somewhere but point is that the op wants to find a good rotation so I provided some top programs that he/she can check out. Do you have any other suggestions for the op?

I learned from a Sub-I that I had recently that there are back doors into certain places. Downside being that rotating somewhere through a back door usually means you don't get formal credit from that institution (which also tends to mean you don't get credit from your institution.) But if your goal is to get experience and exposure to somewhere, that's an option. Without naming specific places, the idea is to contact faculty at an affiliate hospital instead of going through the associated MD school. Probably best if you have a specific connection.

Thanks for the advice everyone,
And what is the vibe about doing 2 psych rotations vs 1 psych & 1 IM or 1 psych & 1 neuro etc etc
