  1. Pre-Pharmacy
do you guys know what the deal is with going overseas for a masters in pharmacy and coming back to the U.S to qualify for the NAPLEX and any other state license exams????

this should be in the licensing forum.
In short, the degree has to be equivalent to a doctor of pharmacy. I don't know if it is equivalent or not.

It's not a problem, the Mpharm is a five year degree so it qualifies. However, I believe that in order to qualify to sit for the boards as a foriegn pharmacist, you must be a licensed pharmacist in the country where you received your degree. Honestly, if you are going to practice pharmacy in the states, just go to school here. You will save yourself a lot of time and if you want international exposure you can always do a foriegn rotation your final year.

Actually...its harder than it appears - at least in my state. CA requires extensive documentation of all your collegiate level work - not just transcripts, but what was covered in those classes. Being a licensed pharmacist, in and of itself, does not qualify.

I have a good friend who went to school in South Africa then emigrated to Canada & ultimately to the US. Her ordeal with obtaining sufficient documentation took two years & that was easy since her education was all done in an English speaking school. I have heard from others, that it is very difficult when from another country which does not use English.

We have a First Data Bank office nearby who employs many foreign pharmacists to assist with translation of info & they say the process it tedious & cumbersome. These pharmacists work as techs here in CA & I can tell.....the education some of them have is far different from ours.

If you don't have to do this for visa/family/religious reasons, I'd advise you not to.
