Hi, I have some questions for current optometrists.

Does anyone know a fellow optometrist that obtained their license in another country (except Canada) but are now currently working here? What did they have to go through to work here?

Reason I am asking is because they have opened an optometry school in South America, fairly new, and is a 4 year optometry program. If the degree is obtained from there what would you have to do to work back in the USA if you were born here? Would they even consider this license from this country? I realize licensing tests are needed to be taken for a license in the USA, but I am wondering would they even allow you to take it?

Thanks for any help offered!

If you go to school in another country you still have to come back here, graduate from a school here, then pass national boards. some schools give advanced standing to foreign graduates. But the bottom line is that if you want to practice here, you have to have your OD degree from a North American school.
