Hi I had two questions regarding medical school.

First off, I was wondering what my chances of getting into medical school are if I'm an international student but am completing my entire undergraduate studies in the States? So far, my GPA is about a 3.82 (but I got two C's in government courses at a community college; these are not included in this GPA) and my MCAT score is a 29. I've applied to majority private schools (I don't think Penn State is considered private but they've previously accepted more out of state applicants than in state) out of state that indicated they accept international students. I applied in July 2005 and haven't received any interview offers yet but apparently the offers for some schools go till April.

I have been working a bit in a research lab since January 2005 and before then, I've volunteered in a hospital for about a year and a half.

Second, are there any doctors (particularly surgeons or ER doctors) working in Austin, TX who don't mind my shadowing them? It doesn't have to be for long, maybe a weekend or a couple of weekends if possible.

Thanks!!

Well, for the most part international students need pretty high MCAT scores "usually" to be competitive...so your MCAT score might be what is keeping you from hearing from schools. Also, there are not that many schools that actually take international students so that limits your pool somewhat. Good luck though!
