I am a international studnet planning to apply to Med School next cycle, but the problem is that I am not allowed to stay in the US after 6/09 due to regulations, so I am thinking to get enrolled into a SMP program so that I can stay in US on student status and apply for Med School. Here are my stats:

Boston University '08 - Biochemistry Bachelor's

cGPA / sGPA :
3.57 / ~3.8

MCAT :
24M (VR 7) 4/07
25N (VR 4) 9/07
36P (VR 9) 9/08

I have done some volunterring and 2.5 years of research in UG, and I am currently working as a full time researcher. Can someone recommend a program for me? I live in Boston so I am more interested in BU and Tufts, any suggestions? Do they have programs to provide more clinical experiences?

I have heard that SMP is for people who wish to boost GPA or MCAT, and I don't want to enroll into a program that could potentially do me more harm than good. So anyone got any suggestions or possible alternatives?

Thanks

definitely do not do an SMP. if you do even mediocre, it will ruin your chances at med school.

i don't know if this helps, but you could try to get a M.S. degree in biochem instead.

I see the point you're making. I've considered that option before (getting a master at a grad school), but most of the grad schools require GRE and GRE subject test, and I am not really in the mood of committing myself to another standardized exam right after I am done with MCAT.

Can someone who has gone through the SMPs give me so feedback on the difficulty of the program and competitiveness of their class? Especially those from BU and Tufts SMP.

Thanks a bunch.
