Hi, I am planning on getting a veterinary medical degree from Pakistan and want to practice in the US. I was wondering what the hurdles would be from getting the degree in Pakistan and coming to the US to become a licensed vet. Is it discouraged? And would it look bad coming from Pakistan? Are there other countries (besides the US) that, for lack of better words, essentially have foreigners get their vet degree and come to the US to practice like perhaps the Caribbean?

Thank you!

There are a couple of non-AVMA accredited Caribbean schools that have many students that return to the US.

There are two ways to become certified to practice veterinary medicine in the states if you have not graduated from an AVMA accredited school...

The ECFVG
http://www.avma.org/education/ecfvg/

Or the PAVE
http://www.aavsb.org/PAVE/

The PAVE is not accepted by all 50 states, so that might influence your choice of which to take.

Also, you would have to pass the board exams for whatever state you wish to practice in.

There's a huge long thread on the "veterinary" forum for foreign veterinary graduates. They usually have some active members with almost their own little community that are talking about this stuff, so I'd try looking over there too.
