Hey Guys..
I m an Italian student and i have some trouble to undestand what is an internership and the differences between observership and all the stuff ending with ship...
Is someone so kindly to explain me the differences?

In medicine your intern year or internship is your first year of residency which counts towards licensing requirements and specialty board eligibility (or makes your eligible for an advance residency like radiology). Not 100% sure what an observership. Sounds like you are just following someone around so you can say you have US clinical experience.

Internship is as explained above

But for an International medical graduate...some other "ships exist"

Observership- u follow somebody around and it can be used to show some US clinical "experience"=exposure.

Externship-they are observerships that involve some hands on component. I dont think program directors believe this anyway as by law...a foreign medical graduate cant see patients.

Clerkship- when u are still a student, u come to the USA to do some rotations. Some foreign medical graduates refer to it as "internship"
