So I'm sure this has come up before, but since we're all staring down internship applications I thought I'd bring it up. What is the deal with letters of intent?
I am applying for a SA rotating internship, and pursuing residency, so obviously going through VIRMP. I know on the equine side of things, where private practice internships dominate and most are NOT through the match, letters of intent are sent out in advance of submitting an application. Is this a thing for the small animal match group? Am I missing something I should be doing right now?

Edited to add another question so it's more visible than below: Another question, while we're all here, what the heck is up with this "general information" section? Is it me or is this basically a repeat of half the stuff in my CV? What am I doing? *tears hair out*

for SA through the match, you write a general letter of intent that gets put in your app package. its essentially just like what you did for vmcas. you submit LORs, transcripts, a LOI, CV, and general info page to the VIRMP

So...is the "personal statement" portion of the VIRMP actually my letter of intent? Because that's the only place I could see for that to go.

Yup.

You switching specialties? I thought you were an equine person!

Hey cowgirl! 😉

And ah. Yes. Am definitely not going the straight equine route. My two potential specialties of choice are both things that allow me to still work on horses in addition to SA, and also have time to actually enjoy my OWN horses.
