I am not sure how I will be evaluated as an intern, but I in a categorical program, so I am here for 5 years. I am doing my best now, but don't want to do extra presentations, etc... that my fellow categorical medicine interns are doing. 🙄 If I get average evals for my intership year, will that carry over to impact my chances when I apply for radiology fellowship? (I would think not, but just want to be sure.)

Thanks for any info from anyone!

I doubt internship evals will follow you, unless:

1) you screw up in a serious way that makes a lot of waves, or
2) you're named intern of the year

Your experiences during residency will have much more bearing on your fellowship application. Just keep your head down and cruise through your intern year... as painful as it may be, it will be over soon.

You don't need to be a superstar. Just stay out of trouble and you'll be fine. That's actually easier said than done, since it's so incredibly tempting to just blow off crap as a permanent off-service intern.

Enjoy your internship and try to get as much out of it as you can. This may well be the last time you have this level of experience in varying fields of medicine. Don't focus too much on radiology at this point, you'll have the rest of your life for that.
Try to see as many patients as you can and try to see as many different types of pathology as you can. Your clinic/ER rotations will be great opportunities for this.
Looking back on it I really loved my internship and it gave me a different perspective on things.
Good luck!

Internship made me appreciate when the ICU intern came down begging for an LP at 530 pm as I was walking out the door. The guy looked like a pin-cushion, but with fluoro I got it on the first try. I didn't think it when I was finishing 8 weeks ago, but it actually seems helpful to have suffered for a year.
