I would like to spend the summer in Omaha, NE with my boyfriend. I am not from the area so my general google searches for "vet student internships in Omaha, NE " are not that directed and came up pretty empty. I was wondering if anyone has ideas I can look into that are more specific.

Summer volunteer experiences that you do during vet school are typically called externships. An internship is a one-year training program that you do after veterinary school.

Your best bet will likely be to wait until early spring and then start contacting clinics in that area to see if they have any paid or unpaid openings.

Nebraska Humane Society has summer internships in vet med but these are typically geared towards undergrad. You could always email their contact person and ask them about it. It's an absolutely amazing place.

Maybe try contacting UNL? They might know of something since they have a veterinary program in conjunction with Iowa State, and Omaha's only an hour from Lincoln. http://vbms.unl.edu/AboutContactUs

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they take students over the summer. Western students get sent there for two weeks in third year and it is a TON of fun with some really great vets!
