Hello!
As I am preparing to interview for potential internships I was wondering if any former interns would be willing to provide me with some insight.
What kind of questions do you wish you should have asked during your interview?
What things do you wish you had known before you interviewed or began your internship?
Thanks-

Here are some questions you might consider asking:
1. How is your time divided between various services?
2. How much time do you spend on the emergency service? Days vs. nights?
3. Do interns have support overnight (i.e.: residents or faculty/staff)?
4. Are there opportunities to participate in research?
5. How many elective weeks are allotted to interns? (this is especially important if you have an interest in something like ophthalmology or dermatology as the core weeks are typically medicine, surgery and emergency)
6. What percentage of your interns typically match for residencies?
I think its very important to spend some time speaking to current interns and getting an objective view on what they like and dislike about their internship, and to get an email address so you can contact them with questions later (especially since some interns will be hesitant to give you their uncensored opinion at work where you're meeting them).
Questions you may be asked: where else are you applying? Are you interested in residencies? Do you want an academic or private practice internship? What are your strengths? Weaknesses? Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years? What are you going to do if you dont match? (I almost always ask intern candidates this last question).
Good luck! hope this helps.
