I recently found a year-long internship opportunity in my hometown with a wellness center. I would be able to help in their clinic, in wellness classes, and in the administration side. However, since this wellness center places a large emphasis on Christian faith, would this work against me in an interview? Will that bias some interviewers against me just due to the affiliation? If not, does this sound like a good avenue to pursue for a gap year?

The affiliation alone will not hurt you, depending on the types of schools you are applying to. Just be careful not to be put added emphasis on the affiliation in your application, and only discuss the affiliation if it is brought up in your interviews. Be sure you are able to discuss it.

In terms of pursuing it as a gap year option, it really depends on what your application looks like so far. If you are lacking research, look into research opportunities. If you are lacking clinical experience, look into those kinds of opportunities. If your application is strong and you just want to take a gap year for some other reason, this wouldn't be a bad option to pursue.

I agree with jemstone. I went on a few mission trips using a christian organization during college and I believe that they really helped me get interviews and i found that they were great conversation topic during the interviews. I tried not to put a lot of emphasis on the religious aspect of the organization/trips but rather the community service aspects of them when i described the trips. So i believe if you can do the same, It can only help strengthen your application.
