Internship/Post-Doc Relocation Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I've traveled back and forth across the country with my two felines several times now (this field has taken me some places). Best purchase hands down was a travel tube (can find by Amazon search). About a month or so before travel I set it up with their favorite blankets and toys so they get acclimated and then there's no problem closing it up and putting it in the back seat. Easy enough to take in hotel rooms too if your traveling cross country.

never heard of that - thanks for the tip!

Here's something I really need help with that was mentioned earlier in this thread- Any tips for transporting two car-adverse felines cross country?! @singasongofjoy sounds like you may have learned through trial and error, haha

Have you considered flying with them? I fly with my cat around the holidays and she is much more relaxed than when in a car (even a 10 minute car drive to the vet has her foaming at the mouth and screaming at the top of her lungs -- and I get very little of that in a 5 hour flight with layovers). Most airlines only charge by carrier (not by animal). Of course then you have to worry about transporting the rest of your stuff, but if possible I would recommend it!

Same with mine. I figure flying means less time stressed out. It's a pain to get the cat through TSA but otherwise I prefer it to driving a yowling cat around. But I only fly with 1, and he stays in the cabin with me.

thanks for the tip! It looks like the large travel tube would be big enough for my two fat cats to be able to be together, which might be less stressful. I'm definitely going to get this. Flying unfortunately isn't a great option for me as I have to drive my car and belongings to my new location anyway.

Maybe you can ask your vet for something to help calm them.
