If the school I go to meets the state's requirements, but it's not APA approved, how do internships work? Can I get an "APA Internship" if my school wasn't APA accredited?

I'm confused because a local girl that's finishing her Ph.D. is interning now and her school isn't APA accredited. However, I don't think the place she's interning is APPIC accredited either.

So, how does the internship work when the school isn't APA accredited?

Thanks!

I am fairly certain that no APA internships consider applicants from non APA programs. Most APPIC internships want students from APA programs as well.

I assume you would apply outside of the AAPI, but as WisNeuro said, many doors are closed at this point and will continue to be closed.

Look at the match statistics: Match Statistics - 2017 - Combined
A small portion of students from unaccredited programs match to accredited internships. While coming from a unaccredited program or internship does not preclude you from becoming a psychologist in most states, it is certainly limiting.

NeuroLady,

89.6% vs 32.3% -- did I read it correctly?
