I recently read a post on here that said research was a good way to boost up your chances of receiving a residency, but as far for both internship and residency, what is a GPA that some of you had when being accepted to either? It looks like there are lots of residency positions, say for Small Animal Internal Medicine. What have some of you experienced?

From what I understand it is pretty variable. Some internship and residency programs set a higher standard in regards to GPA requirements, and I have heard that some places have unwritten cut-off GPA's. I have also heard that GPA becomes more important when applying for residencies due to competition. However, some internship/residency programs have minimum GPA requirements listed on VIRMP (eg 3.0-3.2). People have mentioned on this forum before that if you have a reasonable GPA and your application is strong in other areas than you should be fine. I'm sure there are also cases where low GPA's are made up by superb letters of reference and other exceptional qualities/experience. Also keep in mind that the class rank statistic can also be used to assess an applicant.
