After the 3-4 years of dental school - how many years do you need to do an internship or a residency? Are they the same thing? Is it paid?

No intership. Residency is optional (except NY and maybe CA). You can do a GPR/AEGD if you want to be a general (~1yr) or a residency to specialize. Some are paid...
